THREE POEMS ON WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY 2015

Today the 5th June 2015 is designated as World Environment Day. It is a shame that thirteen out of the world's top twenty polluted cities are found in India: Such is Bharat.

USED AND THROWN

We live in a culture

of use and throw.

We use things and people

and when their use

is over or complete

and their value

to us is finished

then do we them throw.

We talk of people

who pollute the environment

by dropping garbage

and littering the place

but what then are we

who drop our friends; our loves

and just move on

after dumping and do pollute

them who are our loved ones?

Is my logic a bit convolute?

Or are we the polluters?

WE ARE THE PESTILENCE

We are angered

when mosquitoes

and other parasites

drink our blood

and eat our flesh

but we ignore

Mother earth’s anger

when we deplete

her flesh and blood.

When a mosquito bites

we crush it.

When a parasite resides

we medicate it

but what do we do

to those who drain the oil

and mine the mineral

and quarry the stone?

We reward them

with money

and propitiate them

with milk and honey

We are the pests of the earth

ELECTRICAL HAZARDS

The hazards of electromagnetic fields in the home

Are not understood or talked about by anyone

All that mattered was that the light bulb shone

And that all the families and their dogs had a bone.

It didn't matter if the wiring all around the house

Did cause hazards untold and unknown as I did browse

And produced a magnet that attracted many a mouse

What if people blow their fuse as long as it isn't the house

For after all what is a bit of sacrifice for the sake of progress

The people can get themselves inbuilt circuit breakers

Even if they disrupt their sleep cycles and die in harness

Electricity certainly will one day take mankind to the cleaners

But we can’t live without it, even if it causes environmental
                                                                                       issues

Even this stupid poet who complains about all its dangers
                                                                                   and evils

Needs electricity to express or will have to cry into a pack of
                                                                                      tissues

Oh! Aren't we men worse than parasites and weevils?

This poem is just a pathetic attempt of mine at creating awareness about the invisible hazards of electrical wiring which creates electromagnetic fields at home in general, and remains there forever due to the wiring. These electromagnetic fields can disrupt sleep cycles and cause other environmental issues.
