AN EPITHALAMIUM IN HONOUR OF MY DEAREST NEPHEW

It all began about a score and four years ago
When I who was considered a wayward lark
Decided to tie the knot and go the way society doth go
Memories do blur as time passes but one thing made its mark
The memory of a little boy hiding behind someone’s sari tails
With round eyes of awe did he look around as he came up the dais
Where all the family gathered to bless me though they knew my tales
His eyes spoke volumes; his thoughts were deep, inspite of my haze
He seemed to be contemplating the institution of marriage
Which was something so strange for a lad so young of age

His vibes showed signs of wisdom far beyond his years
That I began to always look around for him at all family dos
He appeared just a playful youngster who a smile always bears
But he a certain wisdom beyond his age displayed and still does
What attracted me all the more was that he always had a smile for me
While some of my other kith and kin looked upon me as garbage dirt
He was one of those rare ones who saw something of merit in dirty me,
Though I cannot blame my other kin who could only view my dirt.
Time flew as it is its wont and soon he turned from lad to youth
He soon turned professional and travelled all over from north to south

I wondered if this guy would ever settle down the way society doth go
For too much worldly wisdom can make one want to remain carefree
But finally he decided enough was enough and his maturity thereby truly show
Much celebration did result when he chose a girl from good old Bengaluruee
With much zeal and multiple peals did the wedding bells ring on that day
As the angels rejoiced and anthems sang as God was pleased with his choice
My dearest nephew Joshua, may God bless you with all that you desire in every way
May you and your spouse Jennifa live a life so fulfilling that God doth rejoice
And bless you more and more abundantly; like the rising Sun and the waxing Moon
May you rise and grow but unlike the Sun and the Moon never set or wane too soon
